C1 - Protest Result

Two boats of different lengths and displacements were approaching each
other on the final windward leg, one on starboard, the other on port.
The starboard tack boat, the faster and bigger of the two boats, hailed
"starboard" to the port tack boat which responded with "hold your
course". The starboard tack boat claimed that it was in a series of
lifts and that ,as the boats drew closer, it had to alter course and
bear off to avoid a collision. The port tack boat claimed that the
starboard tack boat did not alter course and, that if it did, it was
unnecessary. The starboard tack boat informed the port tack boat of a
protest and raised a protest flag; the port tack boat took no corrective
action. The Protest Committee determined that the starboard boat did
alter course and bear off to keep clear of the port tack boat and that
the action of the starboard tack boat was reasonable under the
circumstances. The protest was upheld based upon the violation of Rule
10; the port tack boat is disqualified from the race.
