Youth Skipper / Thomas Sproston Trophy
LADIES CUP RACE
• THOMAS SPROSTON TROPHY •
First Place Junior Skipper — Any Class, Any Division
1st Awarding — 2012
In 1988, Thomas Sproston won LCYC's Yachtman of the Year award. The award that year was a beautiful inlaid wood depiction of a sloop sailing upwind. After the trophy had spent many years in storage, RC Chair Dave Powlison put the it back into service in 2012 to encourage junior sailors (age 17 and under) to participate in the Ladies Cup. To be eligible to win the trophy, the junior sailor must not only meet the age requirement but must also steer the boat for the entire race. Charlie Maitland was the first junior sailor to win this trophy, sailing aboard the Etchells Pied Piper.
