2016 Racing Season

There are some exciting changes for the 2016 racing season at LCYC!

Goals: We want to keep growing our participation. We want to simplify what it takes to race each season.

Weekends: The weekend Billado/Cannon Series is expanding to include all but one weekend open-lake races. The series will include Tea Kettle, Odziozo, Lady/Youth Skipper, Ladies Cup, Schuyler Island, Commodore Macdonough, and Hot-Ruddered Bum, with two throw-outs. The Double-Handed will be the only stand-alone race.

Simplified Registration: You agree to the waiver, pick the appropriate price level (free for members, except for the Viper 640 Regatta), validate your contact and boat information, and pick Jib and Main or Spinnaker for just three series: Wednesday Nights, Weekends, and One-Design (Etchells/Sportboat).

Persistant Registration! Your racing registration will persist as long as you continue to race. If you registered in 2015, you are already registered! You can login and click on the Account page and change your contact, boat, and racing info. Your existing waiver stays in effect. If you will no longer be racing, please contact your class fleet captain or someone from the racing program.

Race Committee/PRO: Local racing relies on racers taking their turn on the race committee boat as PRO or Race Committee. We have looked at the numbers, and we have a new formula. Each racing LCYC boat owner needs to serve as PRO or Race Committee for one day each season. If you are RC, you also need to bring two crew minimum. We encourage people to login to the website and sign up for Race Committee or contact Keith Kennedy about PRO duty. Please consider committing to a certain race on an ongoing basis. LCYC cruisers and non-member racers are also encouraged to volunteer!

Club

LCYC is a member-run yacht club located in a sheltered cove on the southwest shore of Shelburne Bay in Shelburne, Vermont, USA. We offer moorings, activities, and community for our members, most of whom own a sailboat or powerboat. The object of the Club is to promote and encourage boating and sailing on Lake Champlain, while emphasizing racing, cruising, and education, without financial gain. Cruising

Lake Champlain offers some of the best freshwater cruising in North America. The beautiful scenery and charming lakeside destinations make it a great place to explore. LCYC organizes several rendezvous events. Spontaneous cruising events also materialize throughout the season. We have a number of scheduled events planned for the summer season. Cruisers are out and about just about every weekday and weekend throughout the summer.

Lake Champlain Yacht Club has an active junior sailing program, open to all children ages 8-17. We use Optimist prams and Flying Junior dinghies for instruction and racing. Full and half-day sessions are offered for all ability levels over an eight week period each summer. All of our Instructors are US Sailing certified and have extensive experience.
