It may still feel like the middle of winter (again) but the sailing season is right around the corner. To try to do a better job matching up crew looking for boats and boats looking for crew, the Regatta Committee has launched an updated Crew Match page under the Racing section of the LCYC web site. If we achieve our goal no wannabe crew should be left sitting on shore and no boats should be sailing shorthanded. Skippers: If you have crew you only use periodically and are willing to share them with other boats, please consider posting their names and details on this list.

The Community Sailing Center (CSC) is reaching out to our local sailing clubs to solicit adult members who may be interested in becoming full or part-time Sailing Instructors at the CSC. The CSC offers a variety of programs for youth, adult, students, and the visiting sailing and paddling enthusiast. CSC’s diverse programs range from recreational to racing, accommodating every sailor. Our fleet is composed of Open Bics, Hartley 10s, Escapes, 420’s, Lasers, Sonars, Rhodes 19s, and Stand Up Paddleboards.

LCYC is hosting its first annual Viper 640 Regatta this fall, on September 27th and 28th. Our nice venue and good September winds are attracting one design racers from Maine, Long Island Sound, Marblehead, and elsewhere. We are hoping to provide member housing for as many visiting teams as we can. We have placed a few teams with local members, but we are still looking for guest rooms and couches for teams of two or three. Boats and teams will be arriving Friday afternoon (the 26th), staying that night and the following Saturday. We will be providing a bagel breakfast Saturday and Sunday, and dinner on Saturday evening.

If you are willing to put up a crew for Friday and Saturday night, we would really appreciate it! Please contact dale [at] hyerstay [dot] com or jason [at] hyerstay [dot] com if you would be willing to host a team. This is a great chance to help us grow this regatta and promote sportboat racing on Lake Champlain!

A big thanks to those who have already offered housing. We really appreciate it!

Thanks!

Cruising

Lake Champlain offers some of the best freshwater cruising in North America. The beautiful scenery and charming lakeside destinations make it a great place to explore. LCYC organizes several rendezvous events. Spontaneous cruising events also materialize throughout the season. We have a number of scheduled events planned for the summer season. Cruisers are out and about just about every weekday and weekend throughout the summer.
