Commodore’s Update—May 27, 2020

The LCYC Board of Governors has adopted an Exposure Prevention Plan governing all activity at the facility.  The full text of the plan will be made available on the club website.  We are taking small steps toward club operation. Here is what you need to know:

  • All planned social and regatta activities are cancelled until further notice.
  • Rescheduled events will be provided with sufficient notice.
  • Maintain social distancing and do not congregate in groups of more than 10 individuals.
  • Members and invited guests arriving from out-of-state are expected to comply with state mandates regarding quarantine requirements.
  • Masks are required at all times on the grounds, parking lots, bathrooms or whenever you are in close proximity to others.
  • Stewards will be on duty working regular hours and offering launch service beginning June 4.
  • Masks are required when using the launch. Launch capacity is reduced to 4 passengers plus driver.
  • The clubhouse and kitchen will remain closed until further notice.

Please observe "6 Foot Safe Distance" at all times on the docks. This may mean you and your party need to wait, or queue up, on the wooden ramp before going onto the docks. Respect others. If someone is
waiting on a dock-end, proceed onto the dock, but stay 6 feet from them at all times.

Clear the docks as quickly as possible, especially during busy periods. Do NOT monopolize the docks and/or sprawl out on the docks. Members and guests should not feel uncomfortable walking past your boat. Tie it up away from the main center sections. No long-term work on the docks is allowed.

Dinghy space is tight again this year. Dinghy size and rules will be strictly enforced. Dinghy slot assignments will be the same as last year—see the bulletin board outside the bathrooms. If you need a dinghy slot or you can relinquish your slot for this year, contact Michael Kerbaugh, docks chair, at mikerbaugh@gmail.com

Try not to touch other members’ dinghies. If you use a club dinghy, wipe down oars and equipment when entering and exiting. Bring appropriate cleaning materials with you.

Want to do some casual singlehanded dinghy racing at LCYC while social distancing? Email crew_match@lcyc.info. Indicate level of interest and type of boat you might sail. Open to all singlehanded boats. Some loaner boats might be available. Time and date TBD. If we get to the point of having a RC and scoring, we will use the Portsmouth handicapping system—PHRF for dinghies. Join us!

To avoid sending out multiple email blasts and constantly having to amend the LCYC calendar and website, the Regatta Committee has decided to approach the 2020 season this way: No scheduled races will take place until the Regatta Committee Chair notifies the membership that racing is resuming. There will be a two-week notice for the resumption of racing. Please be sure to check your email and/or the LCYC website for communications about resuming racing.

Cruising

Lake Champlain offers some of the best freshwater cruising in North America. The beautiful scenery and charming lakeside destinations make it a great place to explore. LCYC organizes several rendezvous events. Spontaneous cruising events also materialize throughout the season. We have a number of scheduled events planned for the summer season. Cruisers are out and about just about every weekday and weekend throughout the summer.
