Volunteering FAQ's

Any questions not answered below please contact the Membership Chair at lcycsecretary@gmail.com or the appropriate Committee chair.

May I change my committee assignment?
You may change your committee at any time by contacting lcycsecretary@gmail.com

What if I volunteer on a task for a committee other than the one to which I am assigned?
You may choose any task, on any committee. You just need to ensure the task is needed and then post the hours it took to complete.

What constitutes a “family unit”?
A family unit includes all immediate family of the LCYC member. Example: A family of 4 would need to volunteer a total of 8 hours.

Do my children and/or spouse have to volunteer too?
They are not required to volunteer. The "family unit", in aggregate, must volunteer the 8 hours. That can just include one adult. However, we strongly encourage the whole family to get involved as it's a great way to meet other families and form bonds. These bonds can, and have, lasted generations at LCYC! We are a family club and want to continue that mission.

What if my family is just short of 8 hours?
Family units that do not volunteer 8 hours will be considered by the Board of Governors on an individual basis.

Does Work Day count toward the hours?
Yes, Work Day counts

What if I feel I can't volunteer?
You are welcome to contact a BOG member and we can discuss your situation at the next BOG meeting.

How do I track my hours all year?
The form allows you to update your hours with each task you complete.

Does work I do for the club outside of the club property count?
Yes, provided it is a requested/necessary task.

What if I did work before Work Day?
Work done for the club any time during the year counts. Use the form to log your hours all year long.

Club

LCYC is a member-run yacht club located in a sheltered cove on the southwest shore of Shelburne Bay in Shelburne, Vermont, USA. We offer moorings, activities, and community for our members, most of whom own a sailboat or powerboat. The object of the Club is to promote and encourage boating and sailing on Lake Champlain, while emphasizing racing, cruising, and education, without financial gain. Cruising

Lake Champlain offers some of the best freshwater cruising in North America. The beautiful scenery and charming lakeside destinations make it a great place to explore. LCYC organizes several rendezvous events. Spontaneous cruising events also materialize throughout the season. We have a number of scheduled events planned for the summer season. Cruisers are out and about just about every weekday and weekend throughout the summer.

Lake Champlain Yacht Club has an active junior sailing program, open to all children ages 8-17. We use Optimist prams and Flying Junior dinghies for instruction and racing. Full and half-day sessions are offered for all ability levels over an eight week period each summer. All of our Instructors are US Sailing certified and have extensive experience.
