Don Rathbone
He was on the mend last season. He beat me fair and square in a JAM race. What a great guy. I'm so sorry I won't be seeing his Tartan transom next season.
I met Don at Shelburne Shipyard in 1986 when his boat was next to mine. He was waxing the hull. Usually a dreary job, Don was exuding joy as he brought his boat to peak gloss. At the time I was not a member of LCYC. He suggested I consider joining the club. I figured if Don represented LCYC club members, it must be a great club.
When I was put in charge of docks, Don made a special effort to help me. While some members treated LCYC as a cheap marina, Don always went the extra mile to generously help out and make the club all that it could be.
I will miss Don's friendliness, sense of humor, and keen racing style. He was the finest example of a Corinthian Yachting Racing Captain in our club!
