Volunteering @ LCYC

LCYC has always run on volunteer power—it saves money, but more importantly, it helps us get to know each other better and increases our sense of ownership and community at the club.

Starting in 2022 each family unit is expected to contribute a minimum of eight hours to the club each year.

Sound onerous? Not really. If you attend both Work Days, that’s eight hours right there. Many other projects and programs need help throughout the year, so if you want to do more or can’t make it to Work Day, you can contribute by working on one of these. After each job (including Work Day), it is your responsibility to document how many hours you helped out.

Honorary, Inactive, and Lifetime members are exempt from the eight-hour rule. Some members may also have legitimate reasons for not being able to volunteer. If so, it’s your responsibility to request an exemption from the Board of Governors. Contact your committee chair and they will present your request at the next meeting.

We know so many members go way above and beyond what is expected. For that, we thank you!

Club

LCYC is a member-run yacht club located in a sheltered cove on the southwest shore of Shelburne Bay in Shelburne, Vermont, USA. We offer moorings, activities, and community for our members, most of whom own a sailboat or powerboat. The object of the Club is to promote and encourage boating and sailing on Lake Champlain, while emphasizing racing, cruising, and education, without financial gain. Cruising

Lake Champlain offers some of the best freshwater cruising in North America. The beautiful scenery and charming lakeside destinations make it a great place to explore. LCYC organizes several rendezvous events. Spontaneous cruising events also materialize throughout the season. We have a number of scheduled events planned for the summer season. Cruisers are out and about just about every weekday and weekend throughout the summer.

Lake Champlain Yacht Club has an active junior sailing program, open to all children ages 8-17. We use Optimist prams and Flying Junior dinghies for instruction and racing. Full and half-day sessions are offered for all ability levels over an eight week period each summer. All of our Instructors are US Sailing certified and have extensive experience.
