Lake Champlain Yacht Club to Host Boating Safety Clinic
Please join us Saturday May 11 from 1 – 4:30 p.m. at the Main Street Landing Film House located in the Lake & College complex for a Safety at Sea Seminar with sailor- writer John Rousmaniere.
What would you do if you fell overboard? What if it were someone else on your boat? What if there were just two of you on the boat to begin with? How would you respond if you heard a nearby boat radio that they had just lost a crew member overboard?
Whether you're a sailor or a power boater, these and similar emergency situations can happen to you and we all need to be prepared.
We are fortunate to have one of the top sailing safety experts in the country—John Rousmaniere—join our boating community for an afternoon discussion focusing on emergency situations such as those mentioned above. John Rousmaniere has sailed over 40,000 miles in boats of all types. His books include Fastnet, Force 10, The Annapolis Book of Seamanship (4th edition in preparation), After the Storm, and several histories of sailing. He has presented at more than 100 safety and seamanship seminars. Rousmaniere recently collaborated on inquiries into a fatal dinghy capsize at Annapolis, a fatal capsize in the Chicago-Mackinac Race, and the evacuation of a sailor in the Newport Bermuda Race. He also wrote the reports for tests of safety skills and equipment for small boats and cruising boats for U.S. Sailing and Boats U.S.
Advanced registration is just $10 per person. Registration at the door is $15. Preregistration will also be available at the LCYC club opening work day Saturday, May 4th.
