September is here, and that means earlier start times for racing to make use of the daylight. Please remind your crew to get there early so you can make your start!

The first gun (Etchells Warning) is at 17:25.

We are still running the same four-start sequence that we have been running all summer long:

Etchells
JaM & Spin D
Spin B & Sportboats
Spin A & Spin C

On another note, participation this year has been at record levels. We have 87 registrants who signed up for at least one race!

This coming Saturday, August 24th, is the brand new Diamond Island Regatta, put on by Diamond Island Yacht Club with full support of Point Bay Marina. DIYC & PBM aspire to have this event become an annual nautical festival in the mold of our Ladies Cup – attracting fun-loving racers and cruiser-racers from all corners of the lake to morning eats before the skippers meeting, an interesting and suitably challenging race for all comers in JaM and Spinnaker, followed by their already annual steamers and lobster fest.

Please join us Saturday May 11 from 1 – 4:30 p.m. at the Main Street Landing Film House located in the Lake & College complex for a Safety at Sea Seminar with sailor- writer John Rousmaniere.

LCYC Members,

Attached is the updated notice for the 2012 Annual Meeting of the members of the Lake Champlain Yacht Club which will be held upon completion of Fall Workday chores (approximately 11:00am) on Saturday, October 20, 2012, at the Clubhouse, 2790 Harbor Road, Shelburne, Vermont.

p>The original version of the notice incorrectly stated the data of the Fall Worday as October 15th. The correct date is Saturday, October 20, 2012.

Around 5 pm today (Friday), LCYC Commodore Chris Leopold and I were on the phone with WCAX meteorologist Dan Dowling about weather conditions for Saturday’s Macdonough Race. He advised us that conditions on the lake Saturday will become severe by late afternoon/early Saturday evening, thanks to a very strong cold front that extends from north of Montreal all the way south to NYC. Dan said that the front is solid from end to end and will contain winds that could gust to around 60 mph. The winds will be accompanied by frequent lightning.

Cruising

Lake Champlain offers some of the best freshwater cruising in North America. The beautiful scenery and charming lakeside destinations make it a great place to explore. LCYC organizes several rendezvous events. Spontaneous cruising events also materialize throughout the season. We have a number of scheduled events planned for the summer season. Cruisers are out and about just about every weekday and weekend throughout the summer.
