Thanks to Regatta Chair Gerry Davis for this drone shot of the Spinnaker fleet from above Shelburne Bay.

Croatian Coast

In our final Speaker Series of the summer, Michael Kerbaugh shared his cruising adventures in Croatia last June, with photos of amazing scenery and some great stories. It was a fitting way to cap off what’s left of the summer and give all plenty to think about when planning for next year.

Rachael Miller

Rachael Miller from the Rozalia Project for Clean Oceans was LCYC’s host for the August Speakers’ Series. She provided a fascinating overview of what’s being done to help keep our waterways clean as well as giving us a preview of a new product, the Cora Ball—a simple device designed to be dropped into washing machines, right along with the wash, to help fight the growing problem of micro-fibers in our ecosystem. It was a great evening that provided plenty of information about what we all can do to keep the waters clean that we enjoy so much.

Jus Smith

It’s been a busy week for the Etchells fleet, with Gary Jobson on Monday (see earlier write-up) and Jud Smith and Chris Morgan on Tuesday. Jud and Chris provided an on-the-water clinic for 11 boats in the Etchells fleet, and although the wind was light, which seems to be the norm for this summer, they were able to get aboard a number of boats and provide some specific coaching. Once ashore, Jud ran a debrief session, showing some drone video of the fleet, filmed by Jack Boynton, and some on-board still photos to illustrate his points.

Gary Jobson

Our LCYC Etchells fleet was delighted to have Gary Jobson join us for our July 7 Monday night E Series. The wind didn't cooperate for the sailing part of the evening, but afterwards Gary gave an entertaining talk to a crowd of over 40 people, mostly Etchells sailors, about his experiences sailing Etchells, stories about his own sailing in other boats and reflections on the America’s Cup, past and future. Afterward, the group enjoyed pizza, compliments of the Etchells fleet, and had time to visit personally with Gary. A big shout out to Scott Willard for making this happen.

Cruising

Lake Champlain offers some of the best freshwater cruising in North America. The beautiful scenery and charming lakeside destinations make it a great place to explore. LCYC organizes several rendezvous events. Spontaneous cruising events also materialize throughout the season. We have a number of scheduled events planned for the summer season. Cruisers are out and about just about every weekday and weekend throughout the summer.
