New to this but - is there a reason why a triangular "T" or "TWL" course (p18/19 in the Racing Manual) is never used on a Wednesday evening?

Not never....but definitely
Not never....but definitely rarely. We may not have done one last year...I don't recall. One problem is the mark configuration in the bay makes it difficult to do T course in a north wind. We occasionally do a T in a south wind. The other consideration is a general trend toward WL courses (everywhere, not just LCYC) over the last 5-10 years based on the view....shared by many, but not all, that they make for more tactical downwind racing.
triangles
straight triangles don't allow for much actual racing. the only real opportunity to pass someone is on the beat, and then it tends to turn into follow the leader for the two reaches. triangle windward leewards however do allow for people to play catch up on the 2 beats and 1 run, however they can be pretty long given that they are 5 legs.
