Commodore Macdonough Race—Notice of Race and Sailing Instructions
Sept. 9-10, 2006

Classes A and B shall sail the original course, 73.6 nm in length. Boats, including class C, competing for the 2005 Lake Champlain PHRF Championship must sail the 73.6 nm course. A shorter course, which rounds Valcour Island to the north and Diamond Island to the south, is used as the class C and Jib & Main (JAM) class course.

1.0 RULES:
The race shall be governed by the latest version of International Sailing Federation (ISAF) 2005-2008 Racing Rules of Sailing, the prescriptions of US Sailing, the Notice of Race, the current year LCYC General Sailing Instructions, except as any of the rules are changed by this Notice of Race or by procedures following RRS 89.2.

2.0 REGISTRATIONS, ENTRY, ENTRY FORM:
All advance registration and entry procedures, including fees are described and provided in the LCYC General Sailing Instructions.

2.0 RACING AREA:
The race area will include Lake Champlain, Shelburne Bay and be bounded by La Roche Reef to the north and Diamond Island to the south.

3.0 COURSES:
CLASSES A, B - 73.6 NM
(and C class competing in PHRF Championship)
•Start at the Lake Champlain Yacht Club between the race committee boat and the adjacent mark;
•Leave RN“2” off Shelburne Point to port;
•Leave RN "20" Flashing Red 4 seconds off of La Roche Reef to port;
•Leave Diamond Island to port;
•Leave RN“2” off Shelburne Point to starboard;
•Finish at the Lake Champlain Yacht Club between the Committee boat and the designated C mark.

CLASSES C, JAM - 48.2 NM
•Start at the Lake Champlain Yacht Club Between the RC boat and the adjacent mark;
•Leave RN“2” off Shelburne Point to port;
•Leave Valcour Island to port;
•Leave Diamond Island to port;
•Leave RN“2” off Shelburne Point to starboard;
•Finish at the Lake Champlain Yacht Club between the race committee boat and the designated C mark.

4.0 SHORTENED COURSE:
In the event that the race is shortened at Diamond Island, Diamond Island shall be rounded to port and the finish line shall be between the orange flag of the race committee boat and Diamond Island Light.

4.1 Racers must be notified of a shortened course on the water following the procedure under 9.4 of the Gen’l Sailing Instruction.

6.0 TIME LIMIT:
A boat must finish prior to 1300 hours, plus her PHRF time allowance against the highest rated yacht in her class, on 10 September 2006 to be scored.

7.0 SCORING: The race will be scored wind indexed time-on-time.

8.0 PROTESTS:
Protests will be heard in accordance with Article 15.0 of the General Sailing Instruction. Protests must be filed within 24 hours of a yacht’s finishing. The Protest Hearing will tentatively be scheduled to take place on Monday, 19 September 2005, at the LCYC clubhouse.

9.0 SKIPPERS’ MEETING: 0830 hrs, on day of race, at the LCYC clubhouse.

10.0 OTHER:
• The current year LCYC General Sailing Instructions along with the Commodore Macdonough Notice of Race will be available at the LCYC clubhouse on the day of the race or from the race committee (RC) boat prior to the first warning signal.

• All boats should notify the RC on VHF 72 upon entering Shelburne Bay; an acknowledgement may not be given.

• All boats should notify the RC on VHF 72 or call RC cell phone number given out at the skippers meeting upon nearing the finish area. The RC will then shine spotlight between the orange flag of the RC boat and the finish mark until the boat crosses the finish line. After finishing, the race committee may illuminate the boat’s sail number to confirm its identification.

• All skippers and crewmembers while on deck will wear life jackets, from after dark until dawn.

• After-dark finishes will be signaled by horn or whistle; first-to-finish in each class will receive two horns or whistles close together.

• A boat finishing after the race committee boat has left its station shall record her finishing in accordance with Section 13.1 THE FINISH of the current year LCYC General Sailing Instructions.

• Mooring arrangements may be made in advance by contacting the head steward at the Lake Champlain Yacht Club.

Please note that RGN "LR" has been replaced by RN "20" Flashing Red 4 seconds off of La Roche Reef. This concerns the course for classes A and B only.
