Thanks

  • Class Splits B and C
  • Starting sequence, separate C class start

The results of the regatta meeting are as follows:

  • No changes to the class splits for B and C
  • No changes to starting sequences

It was decide that changes should not be made mid-season and will be looked at for next year.

class splits & c class starting sequence

John,

It would be helpful to see a master list of registered boats by rating and then a separate list of boats that have raced this year and their associated ratings. It is difficult to see this from the curent website "registered boats" section. Maybe you can post this on the website.

Gene

Fleet

Gene,

I posted a listing of all boats I have in the scoring system as of today. I do not have access to run queries against the actual database so I will not claim it is a complete listing. As far as a listing of boats that have raced to date please see the Series A summary. That is the listing of boats that have raced so far this year.

Jill

Nice

John, great idea for the meeting!

Jill, it was great that you posted the fleet. I moved your page up in the hierarchy so it is a link directly on the racing page, not under the previous empty page. BTW, I believe Bumble's Bounce was sold off the lake. Also, I don't know if Sailwave supports this, but it might be worth listing the boats like Northern Lights in both their spin and JAM classes if they have raced both ways.

Great work!

Cheers,

jason

Query

Jason,

I believe you have access to the registration database. It would be great if you actually provided the fleet list based on the registration database. You could query on all boats registered for any race and sort by fleet and rating. This would be the most accurate list.

Thanks,
Jill

OK

I'll see, but I think everyone has access to those listings via the Registration Listings page from the Racing page. The race registration (but not RC signup) is still technically hosted at the old site, and I use an iframe window to present it inside the new site. So, there is no logging-in or any sort of privileged access that I have for that system, but it doesn't seem necessary for what you need. I do have a listing of all the club members' boats, but it is not fully current and does not include non-members. Next season, I hope to have the race registration fully integrated into the modern database setup of the new site.

spin a/b

as the Spin A fleet has decreased this year, would you consider changing the SpinA/B split to less than 106, like it was until 2004, then combining Spin B greater than 105 and Spin C for their start, rather than having
a separate Spin C sequence? Adding an additional start on the light wind evenings could be brutal. Cheers.

Starts

Boat for boat competition among the J/92s, J/29s, C&C 99s (there will be more soon), and Pearson 37s is very close and exciting and it would be a shame to break that up. When we (Tumbleweed 2.0) were in class A last year, we rarely ever had tacking duels with anyone in A. Now in Spin B, we're always in there mixing it up and having more fun. I've heard that there might be another J/109 coming to the bay and if you could get the Aerodyne to do Spin A every Wednesday, you'd have a decent-sized A fleet.

On another note, I spoke to Tris Coffin and since he cannot make this meeting, I'll try to pass on some of the points he made to me. He didn't think we should add a class C start, but suggested that perhaps C should start with JAM, as others have brought up. His primary concern is safety, noting the future possibility of dangerous high wind starts with potentially twenty B/C boats on the line with little room. He thought that trimming the range of Spin B and having the C and JAM boats start together would make it a lot safer out there once we hit those heavy days when all the boats are out on the water. I encouraged him to post his thoughts on the site, but he may be just too busy. Hopefully we can have more meetings in the future to keep talking about these issues as the summer continues.

Cheers,

jason

BTW, this thread is the follow up to another thread.

It looks like there is alot

It looks like there is alot to consider tonight. I would be concerned that tinkering at the edges wont really get to the heart of the problem. If we have falling participation in all but one fleet we really need to address the root causes. I hope we can look at what the impact of handicaps that don't seem to work have on participation. Everyone needs to feel that if they sail well they have a chance to win. I'm not sure that situation prevails now.

Spin C Start

From a quick count of Series A racing results it appears that there are the same number of participants in the JAM A/B combined start as there are in Spin B start. The number for both is about 12/13 depending on the day. It would make more sense to have B/C spin boats start together rather than having C Spin boats starting with JAM. The weekend races would be another matter as there are a lot less boats overall and the counts would have to be examined to even out the starting groups. Since they are not competing the only reason for combining is to have fewer starts - thus faster races in dying winds, etc. However does 5 minutes really matter overall?
