Lake Champlain Championship Series - 2015 Modifications
This will be the third year of the Lake Champlain Championship Series. The 2015 Notice of Series is now posted on the Series website http://www.lcchampionshipseries.org Here are a few changes or modifications you should note (the numbers refer to the 2015 NOS):
1.0 SERIES FORMATS
For the first two years we had two scoring formats: Overall Championship (the Cannon Series); and by Class (the Champlain Series). With our acquisition of the old Racing Conference Class B Canada Goose trophy, we now have a new Overall Class B, C, D Championship (Goose Series).
2.0 CLASSES DEFINED
The break point between spinnaker Classes A and B changed from PHRF 090 to 081 following changes made by the LC PHRF Group to the ratings of a couple of boats within that margin. Mayor’s Cup and LCYC adopted the change to 081, and LC Championship Series adopted that new break point as well.
3.0 SERIES RACES
In the Cannon / Goose Series, as recommended by many racers, Ladies Cup Race replaces Odziozo Race as LCYC’s day race in that Series. Both races remain part of the Champlain Series.
6.0 SCORING
This spring we conducted a survey of most Spin BCD boats on the lake about whether or not overnight races should be a part of the new Goose Series. We received 25 responses from 44 contacts. Our criteria for determining the overall winner of the Goose Series reflects the strong sentiment of respondents that a worthy test of top racers should include at least one overnight race. Therefore, the scoring for the Goose will be the same as for the Cannon, the best five of the six races. It is our hope that having the Goose on the same high pedestal as the Cannon will lay down the gauntlet for more BCD boats to get off their mooring butts and take that worthy test.
9.0 AWARDS
In addition to the new-to-us Goose Trophy, we will have a new trophy for the winner Overall of the Champlain Series. Rupert Thouron, winner of the 2014 Cannon Trophy in Dunder, has commissioned the making, in laminated fine woods of different colors, a unique laser-carved bas-relief of Lake Champlain in which the colors of the wood show the varying depths of the lake. The location on the lake of the four sponsoring clubs will be marked by the appropriate placement of the burgee and initials of each club.
We will continue to work with Kris Jarett of the Maritime Museum to design and make class trophies for the Champlain Series. At this time we do not know if that can be accomplished in time for this year’s award ceremonies. We will do our best to try to make that happen..
