More on Diamond Island Regatta
This coming Saturday, August 24th, is the brand new Diamond Island Regatta, put on by Diamond Island Yacht Club with full support of Point Bay Marina. DIYC & PBM aspire to have this event become an annual nautical festival in the mold of our Ladies Cup – attracting fun-loving racers and cruiser-racers from all corners of the lake to morning eats before the skippers meeting, an interesting and suitably challenging race for all comers in JaM and Spinnaker, followed by their already annual steamers and lobster fest.
The newly rejuvenated Lake Champlain Challenge Series was the impetis for RSYV & PBM to create this event, something they had been thinking about in any case. We at LCYC are excited about this new regatta and asked if we could help in any way. The enthusiastically accepted our offer.
Chris Leopold has talked with their Commodore, Stephanie Wenhoff, and has offered the Dinse as the race committee boat for the event. Dale Hyerstay has worked with their Regatta Chair Wendy Friant in creating their Notice of Race and Sailing Instructions. With Wendy, Dale had designed eight new courses for the event, most involving Diamond Island in one way or another. Dale and Keith Kennedy will be the PROs, assisted by members of DIYC.

With this note we hope to encourage as many LCYC racers as possible to attend. You don’t have to be a Cannon contender to enjoy this festival. Take a look at the scoring sections of the Lake Champlain Championship Series website - http://lcchampionshipseries.org - to see the lake-wide scoring system results of both the Cannon Series and, even more importantly for the majority of racers, the Champlain Series. Those results will clearly show that attending the Diamond Island Regatta can not only be fun in itself, but can make you a lake-wide contender in a fun way.
