According to an article published in the New York Times July 2, 1911 - the fire which distroyed the LCYC in that year was on JULY 1st - not July 4th as stated in your Club History.
"YACHT CLUB DESTROYED. - Calm Over Lake Champlain Prevents Disastrous Spread of Flames. BURLINGTON, Vt., July 1. - Because there was a dead calm over Lake Champlain early this morning Burlington was saved from a fire disaster. Flames destroyed the Lake Champlain Yacht Club house, tenated by wealthy New York Summer poeple, and would have swept through the big lumber yard district adjoining had there been even a slight breeze stirring.
The yacht club house occupied a private pier. the fire had burned through the roof when discovered. Aided by the calm the combined fire-fighting force of the city confined the blaze to the single structure. The loss is estimated at $40,000. Commodore Wetherbeen announced that the club would rebuild immediately."
I was doing research on a pewter trophy which was awarded to Charles H. Rowley, Sr. - approximately 1910 - which I now believe was won in the regatta of 1911 and after the club house was lost to fire - the "need" to engrave the trophy with the year awarded - gave way to the need to raise money to rebuilt the facilities.
