Kimura Cup

KIMURA CUP TROPHY
• Recognition of Contributions to One-Design Racing at LCYC •

Awarded since 1996

The modern club has had three one-design fleets. In the period 1972-80 there were Tanzer 22s at every club on the lake, and the LCYC T-22 owners formed a lake-wide class-sanctioned association that hosted four Northeast Regionals of up to 25 boats during that period. In 1995 John Kimura, Regatta Chairman, advocated developing a JY 15 one-design program at the Club. In 2001 Dave Powlison initiated and fostered a transition from the JY 15 to the Etchells, and obtained from the class association the designation of Lake Champlain as Etchells Fleet 25.

The history of this three-handled loving-cup trophy is not known. The trophy was in the LCYC archives and was activated as the Kimura Cup in recognition of John's one-design efforts. The purpose of this traveling trophy is to publicly recognize the person or persons that make a significant contribution to the advancement of one-design racing at LCYC.

Cruising

Lake Champlain offers some of the best freshwater cruising in North America. The beautiful scenery and charming lakeside destinations make it a great place to explore. LCYC organizes several rendezvous events. Spontaneous cruising events also materialize throughout the season. We have a number of scheduled events planned for the summer season. Cruisers are out and about just about every weekday and weekend throughout the summer.
