Winds cooperate for first Etchells E Series

The wind gods were kind to the Etchells fleet on their first Sunday E Series, June 14. The Bay had been perfect for water skiing all morning, and as the fleet left the moorings, it appeared that getting any races in might be a challenge. But by a little after 1pm, the scheduled starting time, and after a few practice starts in very light and fluky wind, a westerly finally filled in at around 5 knots, allowing the fleet to get in four races, including a windward-leeward, two double-windward-leewards and a windward-leeward-windward. By the time the fleet reached the mooring area, the Bay had already begun to glass over again.
The turnout was great, with eight boats on the starting line. Four different boats shared line honors in each of the four races—Senior Moment, Rascal, Hot Chocolate, and Pied Piper. Another good sign of a healthy fleet is that four boats did penalty turns over the course of the afternoon which, given the close racing, indicates that the racing rules are being observed.
The RC consisted of PRO Dale Hyerstay, Berne Collins and Luis Gonzalez, along with Kyle Paganelli, who set the marks. Many thanks to them for a job well done!
